Agent Chun Li of Interpol

Evening was falling and Interpol Agent Chun Li walked purposefully down through the city streets.  Dressed in her bright blue battle costume that revealed ample amounts of her well toned legs and wearing an expression that was all business the Chinese detective ignored the worried glances of pedestrians who passed by.  It was no surprise that Chun Li drew attention to herself, with a fantastically feminine and curvaceous body, tempered and toned through many years of rigorous training, coupled with a beautifully angelic visage the Chinese agent did not fail to turn heads.

However, Agent Chun Li of Interpol wasn't there to turn heads, she was a woman on a mission:

A tale of swords and souls

Atop the Tower of Remembrance, the ancient king known as Algol sat in his throne. Having been resurrected by the power of Soul Calibur, the mystical sword he had created centuries ago, he now wielded both Soul Calibur and its evil counterpart, the dreaded Soul Edge, the two magical swords that could shape the fate of the very world, which could potentially make him the most powerful being on Earth.

Naturally, this made him a popular target, a fact he was all too aware of. At this moment, a large number of warriors from across the world had come to this area in the hope of confronting him in battle. Some sought to possess either Soul Calibur or Soul Edge (or possibly both) for their own ends, others intended to destroy one or the other (or, again, both). Still others simply wanted bragging rights, others just plain didn't like him.

Whatever the reason, all these would-be challengers would really put a crimp in his world domination plans. Fortunately, they were currently keeping themselves busy fighting one another in various locations nearby, all competing for the right to face him in combat. Algol was rather hoping they'd all take each other out, but he knew that was unlikely. Sooner or later, somebody was going to get through, and whoever it was might actually pose a threat to him if they could beat all these others on their way. He was just going to have to do something about that, wasn't he?

Using his clairvoyance, Algol had been watching all the battles that had been going on around his tower. He mentally sized up the various warriors, trying to determine which ones were formidable enough to be likely to make it to him and which were getting their asses handed to them. Most didn't seem that threatening, but there was one who caught his interest. A female warrior whose combat performance was proving truly remarkable. This woman was so far undefeated, besting opponents who looked like they should be far out of her league. Even Astaroth had fallen before her, and he was a giant. Studying her impressive skill on the battlefield, Algol knew he had found his most likely challenger.

Something had to be done. With the near-limitless power available through Soul Calibur and Soul Edge, Algol figured he could simply summon something with which to destroy this woman... but what? If even Astaroth couldn't handle her, what could he choose that could possibly be up to the task? He needed to think of something capable of matching her strength, her skill, her abilities, and her determination.

And then an idea hit and made him grin. He knew the perfect opponent to pit against this woman, the one they called...

Astaroth had met his match today. He had faced many warriors, and had only really been destroyed once, by a vengeful pirate, seeking retribution for his slain crew. One loss out of who knows how many victiories, until today. Today he had ended up on the wrong end of a blade wielded by someone with even greater power than that which comes from a desire for vengeance. Today he faced a mother....

Sophitia wiped the strange liquid that she could only assume was this creatures blood from her blade. It had been a difficult battle, but she had triumphed, and was surprisingly none the worse for wear for it. She was almost to the top, where she would finally accomplish her goal. Soon it would be over, and her daughter would be safe.

The Gods could be cruel sometimes. While she had been away hunting Soul Edge, her child had been taken. In order to keep her safe, Sophitia was now forced to hunt down and kill those who were trying to find the sword she herself had once searched for. Even Cassandra, her own sister was not spared, although she had managed to avoid killing her for now. She wasn't sure if she could be forgiven, but this was her family at stake, she had to do something.

"Now if only I could find a way up to the next floor." Even as Astaroth's carcass seemed to fade away, the magic sustaining it having decided that it had backed a loser, Sophitia searched for a staircase, a ladder, a door, anything that would take her out of this room, but there seemed to be nothing. Just when it seemed she was trapped, she saw it, a single door, almost invisible the way it blended into the stone. This was it, she would climb to the top and end this, and never again would her children be threatened. She would never be forgiven most likely, but she could live with that if her children were no longer threatened.

"No one will stop me! There no one left who can!" Ironic words considering what the tower's master was doing at that very moment, but Sophitia had no idea of that. She sprinted towards the single door, and rushed down the hallway it lead to. As she sped towards what she believed to be the final battle, she had the strangest sensation, as though she was in two places at once. She continued to run, but the feeling never left, until she entered another room. It was dark and difficult to see, but she kept running, not wanting to slow down.

So she was completely unprepared for the collision with the rooms other occupant. Both women ( it sounded like another woman) gave a loud oof as their heads cracked together, and fell to the ground. Her luck had turned. She had run into another rival she would likely have to dispatch, but first she would need some light so she could see her new foe.

As if in answer to her request, numerous candles suddenly lit up, and her new obstactle was revealed. It was a surprise to say the least.

"By the Gods!" both women exclaimed. In front of Sophitia was a woman who could only be described as her twin. The same clothing, and identical Omega sword and elk shield. It was the face that was the most incredible, possesing an identical look of confusion on it.

Sophitia immediately jumped to her feet and raised her sword and shield in ready positions. Her strange twin did the same, eerily enough, mimicking her perfectly.

"Who are you? Why do you have my face?!" The questions came at the same moment, and both women growled. Sophitia was a kind woman at heart, but her the future of her family was at stake. She had no time for games.

"Stand aside!" One of them spoke. "I can't, nothing can stop me!" The other responded. Very well then, if she had to even defeat herself, or at least a impressive imposter, than so be it.

The Gods must be crazy

"Facinating." Algol watched as the battle between the two Greek women began in earnest. He could tell from the moment he saw her that there was something driving this woman beyond the usual desires. She cared not for power, and anything else. No, this was someone who had something she wanted to protect, at any cost. He was lucky he had found something that could match her determination, even if it was an unusual source. "This will be an interesting turn of events. How will you deal with this obstacle?"

Two shrill voices echoed throughout the tower, along with a near constant clash of steel. Two women, both named Sophitia Alexandria fought desperately to overcome the other. So far, 10 minutes into their struggle, neither had been successful.

One Sophitia was forced to duck as the other swung at her head. Now crouched low, she lashed out at her twins leg, but that woman flipped over the blade and landed a few feet away. She rushed in thinking she had an opening, and the crouching greek stood and charged back to meet her. Their blade meet with a resounding clang, and did their shields when both tried to bash the other in the face with it. They pushed against each other with all their might, but it was no use. Neither could make the other budge.

'Why is this happening?!' Both women thought. She was so close, she could feel it. So close to being reuniting her family again. She had done such shameful acts for that reason alone, and now, when her task was nearly done, this happens. 'Is this my punishment for going against the will of the gods? Will I be locked in a battle with myself for all eternity?' With grunts of frustration, they pushed off each other and fell back, panting to catch their breath.

Small cuts on her left shoulder, and right leg, her ribs hurt from when the edge of her opponent's shield had just managed to nick her, but otherwise no real injuries. The other Sophitia was pretty much the same, right down to the way the winced slightly while gulping down air. 'Her ribs must hurt a bit as well, but I need to do more than that if I want to finish this!' They began to inch towards each other, watching for opening that would change the face of the battle. As they closed in, they started to circle, never breaking eye contact. The opponent's eyes would give away her intentions; that ninja, Taki had once mentioned that to her.

It happened quickly. They both thought they saw their opening, and both attacked at once, then yelped when they realised that the other was attacking as well and they had left themselves vunerable. The sound of metal banging against metal once again echoed throughout the room, and then again, and again.

Both Sophitia's had fallen back on their behinds, watching dumbfounded as their shields rolled away from them, and fell over a nearby balcony to the waiting ground below. That had been close. They had managed to block what would have been a killing blow, but at the cost of their shields. They turned back towards each other, breathing heavily. This was not going to be easy. That was even more clear now. Also, they were still stalemated, and without their shields for protection, they would have to be more cautious. Both women glared at the other as they began to rise.

'I have no time for this! I must find a way to defeat her!' They prepared to engage each other again.

Algol had observed the proceedings carefully, and as a result, he had realised something. "They don't see it. Their too engulfed in their battle to notice.

And Now the Gods must be jerks!

What he saw was that their swords were begining to crack. Soon they would break, and both the women would be unarmed. The Power of the Gods being turned against itself so to speak. It would be quite a site.

Only the clashing of their blades could be heard as the two women battled each other. Neither had spoken a word since their battle began, both wanting only to defeat the other and move forward. Their swords met with incredible force, time and time again, both women putting their all into every swing. Thoughts of their family, of what the price of failure would be drove them to fight with greater strength, and more notably aggresion than ever before.

'I can't fail! I have to reach the top!' They were both begining to breath heavily, as there had been few pauses in their battle since it had began. This had to end.

"TAKE THIS!" Their Omega swords met again with great force, but finally the strain of the battle took their toll. The Holy blades simply broke under the pressure. The world seemed to slow around them as it happened. Sophitia and Sophitia looked on in disbelief as their pieces of their weapons flew off in different directions. Two particulary large pieces flew right by their faces, cutting their cheeks before clanging to the ground behind them.

"I don't believe it!" Neither woman was able to process what had happened. Her sword was gone. Not just gone, but destroyed, and with it, her best chance of success. They turned their eyes on each other, anger etched on their features. This would not be tolerated.

Over the edge

The two Sophitias glared at each other; around them, the pieces of their swords littered their battle field. They were completely disarmed but no less determined.

The two grecian women began to slowly circle each other, each look for an opening to attack; now that the battle had degenerated to a pure hand to hand fight, they were both being more cautious. Sophitia had little to no experience fighting without her weapons, and with the stakes of this battle, she couldn't afford to make any errors.

They were totally focused on what who was in front of them, and the upcoming battle, so they failed to realize their precarious situation: the room they were in was old and decrepit. It had been falling about before they chose it for the site of their battle, and while they'd done little but attack each other, the constant shifting around and stomping had had more of an effect than either had realized.

"...wha...?" Both Sophitia's were suddenly caught off guard when a wall just to the left collapsed. They barely had time to register this when the floor also began to fall away. "No!"

With almost no time to think, both Sophitias leapt to the side, away from the collapsing floor, hoping to reach solid ground, but luck wasn't with them.

The Sophitia to the right was only able to just barely grasp the edge of the collapsed room with one hand, leaving her dangling from there. The Sophitia on the left was more unlucky; just before she could grab the floor, a chunk of it fell away, causing her hand to grab only air. For a moment it seemed this would be her end as she desperately flailed about, but then she just barely spied something within her reach and grabbed for it, hoping it was something that would keep her from falling to her death.

That thing that Sophitia grabbed happened to be the free arm of the Sophitia who'd managed to grab an uncollapsed part of the floor, and she was suddenly caught off guard by a sudden weight on her arm. Looking down, she spotted her double gripping her hand with her own, hanging on for dear life.

"What are you doing!?" The first Sophitia yelled. "Release me, or you'll pull us both down!"

"Are you mad?!" The second retorted. "If I do that, I fall to my death! "

"Well I can't pull you up! You're too heavy!"

"Who are you calling heavy? Maybe you're just too weak!"

They exchanged death glares again, but that didn't change their situation: one Sophitia wouldn't let go, and the other couldn't climb up.

"Let me go! Your weight might cause the rest of the floor to collapse!"

"No! Pull me up and then I can do the same for you!"

"Why should I trust you?"

"You don't have a choice! You said yourself we'll both fall if we stay like this! Plus then you'll be able to use your other arm to save yourself!"

The Sophitia who was hanging from the edge frowned. Her twin had a point, but she wasn't sure if she or the ledge had that much strength.

"If I try to do that, we could both fall!"

"If you don't we'll both fall anyway!"

That was their situation: do or die. Trust each other or fall to their dooms.

Sophitia continued to stare at Sophitia, wondering what she should do.

Ring out!

Sophitia continued to stare at Sophitia, wondering what she should do.

'I have no choice! I must try to pull her up!' The Sophitia hanging from the ledge accepted her twin's logic; no one would let go of the only thing preventing them from falling to their death, and the more she delayed, the more likely that she either lost her grip, or the ledge collapsed. By pulling her up, she reduced the weight on that one part of the ledge, and gained back the use of her other arm.

"Alright. I'm going to try and pull you up!" She yelled down to her double. "Try not to move too much!"

"A-alright!" The lower Sophitia was glad her doppelgänger had seen reason. Now they only had to be careful with how much they moved. Slowly, Sophitia tried to lift up Sophitia to were she could grab the ledge. As she rose higher, Sophitia attempted to reach out so she could grab it as soon as possible.

It wasn't to be.

There was a loud crack, as the piece of the ledge Sophitia was hanging to broke away, right when the other Sophitia's fingers were mere inches away from grabbing on and pulling herself up. Both women shrieked as they suddenly found themselves falling into the abyss below, with no hope to save themselves.

By a hair's breadth, by a hair braid

The two Sophitia's plunged to their doom; there was nothing for either of them to grab hold of or save themselves with. This was the end, and what a strange end indeed. Falling to her death side by side with an identical twin. The last thing either of them would see was the look of terror etched on the other's face, her own face.

But then they saw hope. Just below them was another ledge, and they were falling right towards it, if they could land on it or just grab it, the possibility of survival was high.

Sophitia (both of her) braced herself as she fell towards the ledge, hoping that it didn't collapse from the sudden impact with her body.

WHAM! "Ugh!"

It hurt; falling from such a height and hitting cold hard stone filled theiesr entire body with pain, but compared to what would have happened if they'd fallen all the way to the ground, it was still the better option. That being said, both women had the wind knocked out of them by the sudden impact, and were left gasping for breath and trying to regain their bearings. But this was a mistake: the ledge they were on had a slight incline, and while they were recovering from the landing, both girls began to slide off.

"What....no...NO!" Sophitia was almost too late to realize she was in danger of failing again, and started to desperately reached out to grab something to avoid another (possible fatal) fall. "No no no no!" However, it seemed as though there was nothing to actually grab onto. The ledge was rather smooth, and there were no possible handholds for either of them to get their hands on.

Still desperate, Sophitia reached out for something, anything to prevent her sliding right off. That's where she felt something: what was that? It felt like a rope, but what would a rope be doing here?

No, it didn't matter. All that was important was that it was something she could hold on to, so she did, gripping said rope and holding on for dear life as she slid right off the ledge. She felt herself stop, just a few inches out of reached of the ledge, but....

Sophitia's scalp exploded in agonizing pain. Something was...something was yanking onto her hair. Had it snagged something while going over the ledge. Sophitia could only dangle from her newly found safety rope,  while it felt like her hair would be ripped out right to the roots.

'What is that? What's pulling...wait...no...it couldn't' As she hung, she realized there was something odd about whatever had her hair: it felt like...a pair of hands. Around the same time she found herself wondering just what this rope she was holding was, as it didn't feel like any kind of yarn or finer that would normally be used for rope. It felt like...

At that exact moment, the dangling Sophitia happened to turn turn around, as momentum had caused her to do a one 180, and she saw it: her twin, hanging from a rope...a very familiar looking yellow rope.

The two greek women could only continue to cling to the other's braid, while glaring at the other, tears forming in the corners of their eyes.
